The Illustrated Guide to Academic Integrity from Ryerson University (http://www.ryerson.ca/academicintegrity) is a great resource for students and faculty in the higher education. This website is very informational and a good resource for my current work as well.
- What is contained in the site?
- Students: There are 5 episodes of videos animation. The videos are applicable to individual and group works. The topics are plagiarism, buying/borrowing work, cheating on exams, forging group work and problem solving in group settings. This site also offers LOTS of Academic Integrity workshops for students. Information was categorized by undergraduate, graduate and international students. There is also a “common misconceptions” that was in FAQs format.
- Faculty: There are multiple resources for faculty which include information on responsibilities, preventing plagiarism, reporting a breach of academic integrity, tools and support, and also for submitting a suspicion of academic misconduct online.
- Others: There is other information for public in the site, such as turnitin, information for students’ family, resources and Ryerson University Academic Integrity Office contact information.
- How you would use this resource in a classroom?
- Students: ONLINE – Students are require to watch the videos linked into our current LMS. They are requiring taking short assessment (quizzes) and also writing reflections on what they learned from the videos.
- Faculty: ONLINE – From the faculty resources provided on the site, I would create my own videos/animations/learning objects about academic integrity for faculty. I would post finished products in our current LMS, require them to take case studies in quiz format. Also, i would encourage them to discuss their own academic integrity experiences (if they have encountered them before) in the discussion forums.
- How you would assess student learning based on their use of the site?
- Students: Quizzes in LMS. Students will only have one attempt for each quiz. Extra credit will be given if they score 80% and above for all of the require quizzes.
- Faculty: Require case studies. Must have passing grade of 80% and above in each case study in order to progress to another module. A certificate of completion will be given after successful completion of all the modules.
