Interactive Whiteboards
Interactive Whiteboards
Awareness: I am aware of whiteboards but have not used them before either as a presenter or as student. Since I work in the higher education, I have seen the students use the response/clicker whiteboards. After reading this module, I am just getting to know there are several types of whiteboards. I love those that you can really interact (touch) with.
Exploration and Filtration: I explored both whiteboard companies that were listed in the module. I downloaded both from SMART Technologies and one from Promethean. Then, I decided to go with SMART Technologies as this is the distributor for the whiteboard in my work place. I also downloaded the responses and PDF function that come with it.
Learning: When I first worked on the SMART Notebook, I was having some trouble. I have to ask “Help” for several times. After spending some time, I found the software easy to navigate. When it comes to designing my curriculum, I decided to go with my lesson from previous assignment which is nursing students educating elementary students about nutrition. I designed the activities based on basic food pyramid questions. This is interactive where students will physically “touch” the screen and choose the answers.
Application: If I were to recommend or design a lesson with interactive whiteboard, I would incorporate responses/clickers with it. The rationale for this includes that “adults” students tend to be reluctant to answer in classroom settings and like to have feedback immediately.
